neighborhood
engagement program series
The Neighbrohood Engagement Program Series, offers the opportunity for community engagement. The series consists of GLAI screening a play, short pieces from our signature project including conversations from OTF, followed by a focused conversation on an educational topic related to the piece we watched. The NEPS are meant to increase arts access, provide arts education for diverse community members, introduce local artists to the larger community, as well as garner community feedback and input on how we can utilize the arts to address socio-political issues that impact Detroit.
the propulsion theatre project
Propulsion focuses on encouraging economic development of theatre in Detroit. Supported by the Mellon Foundation as a collaborative project with Blackboard plays, we create sustainable contributions to the local arts ecosystem by emphasizing expansion of infrastructure that allows for equitable compensation. In addition to a focus on the individual artist, Propulsion supports the growth of professional theatre organizations through collaboration with municipal, non-profit, and for-profit partners – to propel cultural exchange, workforce development, artistic creativity, and economic empowerment through the theatrical arts.
