We invite students from Detroit, grades 9-12 who are interested in storytelling, the arts, theatre, and playwriting. During this three-day workshop, students will work with a professional playwright to explore narrative storytelling. Students will generate a 5-10 minute play.

The Young Artists Workshop is a three-day intensive designed to immerse emerging artists in the craft, discipline, and community of theatrical storytelling. Led by master teaching artist Ann Eskridge, participants engage in hands-on instruction that builds creative confidence, sharpens performance technique, and situates their individual voice within the broader tradition of Black artistic expression. Each day builds upon the last, creating a cumulative experience that challenges young artists to go deeper — in their work, their imagination, and their sense of purpose. By the end of the workshop, every participant will have developed and performed an original 5–10 minute short play — a tangible, lasting product of their creative investment.
